Nestled in the dynamic downtown district of Plainfield, The Barlow Apartments offer an unparalleled urban living experience within a thriving neighborhood. Challenge:
During The Barlow’s initial construction phase, the developers aimed to deliver the finest internet experience for their residents. However, they recognized the difficulty in supplying high-speed internet to every apartment within the building. The urban location posed a challenge for traditional internet service providers to meet the speed and reliability demands of residents.
ORI emerged as the winning vendor among numerous competitors, securing the contract based on their outstanding services and competitive pricing. ORI collaborated closely with the developer to design the network infrastructure. The Barlow is a four-story, architecturally significant building, and includes 116 modern apartments, more than 3,000 square feet of commercial space, and a surface parking lot with 154 units.
ORI’s Solution:
To ensure the precise installation of low-power wiring, ORI project manager and network engineer worked with the builder and contractor before construction started. All apartment units as well as common areas including the lobby, fitness center, remote-work lounge, conference rooms, indoor and outdoor lounges, indoor and outdoor kitchens, and outside common were included in the project’s scope. Managed WiFi6 was also intended to be provided throughout the whole building.
In addition to developing and deploying a cloud-managed system and switches, ORI also built a temporary WiFi network for guests and possible renters. The backbone of the internet service is a 1Gb fiber link. ORI was granted access to the data closets and was successful in turning on the network for the residents.
The Results:
The seamless onboarding of residents resulted in minimal tickets or trouble calls, even for a brand-new deployment. The property-wide WiFi system allows each apartment to have a unique code to join the WiFi, enabling the creation of a secure Private Area Network (PAN) for shared devices and IoT. This allows devices like Apple TVs, Roku, and Alexa to work seamlessly throughout the entire complex while maintaining the security of residents’ information and devices.
Following the installation of the fiber-optic network and Wi-Fi6 routers, The Barlow Apartments has become one of the most sought-after residential communities in Downtown Plainfield because they were only one of few buildings with fiber optic and Managed WIFI making life much easier for tenants that were working remotely. The community has witnessed an increase in occupancy rates, with tenants attracted to the high-speed internet and contemporary amenities.
